THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN THROWDOWN: CSU RAMS vs CU BUFFS Part 2

CSU offense versus CU defense

CSU will need to open some lanes for All-Conference RB Chris Nwoke, that’s obvious. A star in the making, Nwoke can break tackles and pick up the extra yards. Backing him up is the explosive freshman Donnell Alexander who crept up the depth chart throughout the spring. He’ll also be handling KR duties. If we can establish the run early it will be a long game for CU. Luckily, the bright spot for CSU’s offense is the O- line. Led by center Weston Richburg, this line has a chip on its shoulder and will dictate CSU's offensive identity. Given Coach Mac’s success with the run (see Ingram, Mark and Trophy, Heisman), the Rams will pound the rock early and often, keeping CU’s defense honest and giving athletic QB Garrett Grayson opportunities to make plays with his arm and legs.

THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN THROWDOWN: CSU RAMS vs CU BUFFS Part 1

It's time to get serious. Let's focus. CU leads the series 61 to 20, but since the Rocky Mountain Showdown became an annual event in 1995 CU only holds a 12 to 5 advantage. Every Rams fan can remember Kevin McDougal running over CU defenders like Chevy's in the south running over possums on their way to the local tractor pull. Who can forget Bradlee Van Pelt scrambling around CU defenders before spiking it on Rod Sneed's head as he crossed the goalline? Games became so heated between these two teams that fights in the stands were common, they quit selling alcohol at games, and started playing them in the morning to keep fans from tailgating. There was also the epic game in 99ʼ where CSU trounced the Buffs 41-14, and CSU fans celebrated by showering in tear gas and pepper spray. After realizing that CSU was a formidable foe, CU leaders tried to intervene and moved all their home games back to Folsom Field. Now all games are at Sports Authority Field, and J-Mac can win the heart of Ft. Collins by winning his first Showdown against those nappy granolas to the south of us. They will be protesting world peace before the game, but will protest Ram domination of the state when this one is finished.

MASCOT v MASCOT

Time for a season mascot showdown preview. If the mascots of each football team were to square off in a 3 round UFC style fight, here's who would win. Spoiler alert...this post was written by Ram fans.

PLAYER COUNTDOWN: 5 DAYS

5 days and counting… 5 days!

Our countdown continues with Colorado State's own #5, Momo Thomas. A 5'9", 185 pound corner senior out of Kissimmee Florida, started 10 games as a freshman back in 2008 and made an immediate impact by recording 54 tackles and an interception.

SONNY'S SUBWAY MYSTERY

Sonny Lubick, the King of Colorado State football, has lost his table at Subway. I am shocked and saddened. Maybe since Sonny has a steakhouse, he's upgraded but seriously, it's Sonny, and his table at Subway is a historical landmark.

FIVE GAMES ONE STADIUM

October 4th - a day that could shape the future of the Colorado State University football program, not to mention the entire athletic department as well as countless former, current and future Rams. With a board meeting scheduled for that weekend, CSU president Tony Frank aims to have a decision in hand detailing whether or not CSU will move forward with the construction of an on-campus stadium. What's the worst part about it for Tony Frank and Athletic Director Jack Graham? Whatever they decide, they are going to piss off a lot of people. So let's fire up the Flux Capacitor, get in the Deloreon and floor it to 88mph and find out what happens…

11 DAYS AND FEAR THE MULLET

It’s almost that time, the day are getting shorter, the nights are a bit cooler and football season is fast approaching. Since there are 11 days until the Rocky Mountain Showdown, we are showcasing CSU’s favorite #11, Bradlee Van Pelt.

BVP’s arrival on the CSU campus injected the football program with a healthy dose of swag. By

PLAYER COUNTDOWN: 13 DAYS

13 days and counting…

#13 Lee Clubb. A 5'11", 190 pound wide receiver out of Iowa Park, Texas. This sophomore comes back this year with the real possibility to be a long ball target for Grayson.

Clubb played all 12 games during his freshman year as both a wide receiver and kick returner. In 2011 he tallied just 65 yards receiving but as a returner, he racked up 390 yards and averaged 26 yards every time he touched the ball. In 2012, Clubb is looking to become a regular fixture for this Ram offense and with his speed, he may put on a track meet for some unlucky defensive backs.

Here are some highlights where he demonstrates his speed and some shifty moves.

18 days and counting...

Our countdown continues with Colorado State's #18, Garrett Grayson. This 6'2", 215 pound sophomore from Vancouver, Washington, is ready to take the reins as the new starting quarterback for the CSU Rams.

As a freshman, Grayson had three starts at the end of the 2011 season and put up some very promising

KRAM - CSU RAM TELEVISION

The CSU Rams TV schedule came out a few weeks ago and I've been meaning to follow up on the post that hailed the end of the Mountain West Channel (MWC) on DirecTV. I read many of the comments questioning my super slam of the MWC but I'm still holding firm on my position. I believe one of the biggest reasons for the decline in Ram Fan support, aside from losing, can be directly attributed to the Mountain West Channel. Let's face it, the MWC didn't work, not enough people subscribed, first to DirecTV and secondly to the Sports Pack which included the network. The costs were simply too high. I won't revisit how awful I thought the channel was because I know that's very subjective.

22 DAYS UNTIL LAUNCH

Though not on our CSU Rams' roster anymore, Elijah-Blu Smith still gets recognized for the pounding hit he lays on Scotty McKnight of CU. Check out the damage #22 does in the 2009 Rocky Mountain Showdown. With 74 tackles, 42 of them solo, Smith finished second in team tackles in 2009, marking it a career year for the converted free safety. In his senior year, Mr. Smith played his more natural position of cornerback for 7 games, only to be sidelined by a shoulder injury the rest of the season. With that, we salute you, EBS, and wish you good luck in the future. Thank you for destroying Scotty McKnight. It will always be remembered as one of the greatest hits in Ram history.

SO FRESH & SO CLEAN: CSU RAMS GET NEW UNIFORMS

New era, new coach, new look. Seems to all fit together, right? Colorado State football made a subtle, yet significant statement today by unveiling their 2012 uniforms. The newest iteration of Ram wear can most aptly be described as ‘simple.’ Anyone hoping for a jersey with flash or flare, sorry to disappoint but these babies are about as sexy as Britney’s return to the stage in ’07

KAPRI BIBBS RAW: THE INTERVIEW

Kapri Bibbs showing off the popular conceptual uniforms created earlier this year.
There has been a lot of talk this offseason on prized recruit Kapri Bibbs. There were questions on his eligibility and if his vow to return to Colorado State was legitimate. The fan base feared that another school in a bigger conference would swoop in and steal him away. There were questions on if he was in town and was already on campus. Well Ramifications reached out to Mr. Bibbs to put rumors to rest, and put the minds of the students and alumni at ease. A couple quick things that we would like to point out about this interview is what an interesting guy Kapri is. He was a fun and interesting interview and although this one was long, we could have asked him questions all day. Another thing weʼd like to point out is Kapriʼs loyalty and commitment to not only CSU, but to the fans that support them. It is very evident after reading this interview that he is doing all he can to not let us down, and be a man of his word. He showed a lot of character that you donʼt find in a student athlete his age. He was very impressive. We hope you enjoy this interview.
