March Madness is perhaps the great sporting event and the last 2 years, the Butler Bulldogs have made it to the final. Maybe comparing football to basketball is apples and oranges, but the tournament system creates excitement and allows the smaller schools to compete. A move had to be made and beggars can’t be choosers.
So, due to all the negative press this Mountain West/Conference USA super combo has been receiving, we thought we would post a list of the positive outcomes to this merger. Also we are taking suggestions for the name of this “super” conference. I vote for Super Conference.
1. We won't have to see this piece of crap MW block logo on our field anymore.
2. CSU fans will enjoy traveling to exotic places such as Greenville, NC to battle East Carolina and Huntington, WV where the Rams can take on the likings of the Marshall Herd. Pretty sure they have airports in those cities. Actually, it will be nice to travel to New Orleans to see the Rams wipe their asses with a Green Wave. Hawaii too.
SIDENOTE: What the hell is this? Looks like something my five year old niece drew. A tree? A Christmas cookie with a football? Soft serve ice cream running away from the cone that it was placed in? Stupid. I can't believe we are going to be in a conference with this garbage. F for effort, + for looking like a tree.
3. The idea of a playoff between division winners is an excellent idea. A positive in my book.
4. The multiple flags that will be flown around Hughes Stadium, just like the ole' WAC days. This will dress up the Rams' home once again.
5. You know, instead of complaining, come up with a better idea.

A Better idea is for Capt. Jack to petition the Big East to let us join. Get an endorsement from Boise and San Diego State to be another western partner and show them our business plan to get back quickly to what we were in the 90's and show them how we could still beat the crap out of Memphis in football and have owned San Diego State for years until recently.
ReplyDeleteI like the Big East idea. Independence would be my second choice.
DeleteJust please get us out of the CUMSWAP conference.
Independent? are you drunk? Where would we get tv money? Teams that go independent have a following and can make money. Our fans are lazy and don't spend enough.
DeleteGetting rid of that ugly purple logo is enough!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the attempt at a positive spin on today's grim news, but this is a true setback that we had coming to us in the current climate of conference shuffling. A good Utah team bailed, a good BYU team bailed, Boise St. crashed the MWC party, took the kegs and girls and bailed for another party. Then a fierce TCU team gets to go to a place where they belong.
ReplyDeleteRegardless of how AD Graham spins it, it's rotten. It's not his fault however, he came to rescue a sinking ship but it was too late and it just sunk. He has to posture a positive stance, I don't blame him.
We failed in the past administration to take the Lubick Era higher. With poor timing of below average football combined with conference realignment, we just got set in our place...a Community College atmosphere.
This leaves one concept left for CSU. Just win. We'll have to rally around a potentially great head coach and hope for the best over the next 5-10 years, empty stadium or full.
Capt. Jack & Coach Mac are creating a BUZZ ! If these Rams go and dominate this " Super Conference" the Rams WILL get Big 12 consideration. The Big 12 is starving for a Colorado presence. It might as well be our Rams !! If Ram fans rally behind this new stadium and the product is on the field IT WILL HAPPEN !!! We need BELIEVERS not doubters. GO RAMS
ReplyDeleteHey Ramifications, you're missing an opportunity. Think of all the new logos you could create.
ReplyDeleteBingo
Big 24
ReplyDeleteThe Big East is now a garbage conference just as much as the CUSAMW. It has become a joke with a BCS bid. Things will continue to evolve.
ReplyDeleteThat's bull. It may not be very stable, but the BE is actually stronger in football than it was before, and it was already better than the ACC if you look at the results, though both polls' voters and ESPN will have you believe otherwise.
Deletehttp://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbc11.htm
Add to that the better teams of the MWC and CUSA (except Southern Miss and TCU) as well as admittedly bad UCF and awful Memphis and the gap between the BE and the alliance widens, and the BE gets a little further ahead of the ACC.
Actually, the simpliest solution is to have the league remain as Conference USA, especially since the league now includes teams from both coasts.
ReplyDeleteThis has been relatively overlooked, but this merger creates a nicely competitive basketball conference. As of today, this future league would have 4 schools with 20+ wins, 6 schools with 15 or more wins and a conference winninging percentage of .628, that's without the addition of another 2 to 8 schools...
I know football drives the revenue bus, but basketball is a money-maker too...
Not happening, unless you want to keep CUSA's bad TV deal and terrible relationship with ESPN. Dissolving the old conferences gets rid of most of their legal obligations. Plus it was a terrible name in the first place.
DeleteThis is not the ideal conference move but I have no doubt it is better than the watered down MWC we were set to see in 2013.
ReplyDeleteOur window of opportunity is small to get an invite to a BCS Conference so lets hope McElwain can get this thing turned around quickly. SDSU only had two years of good football before they got an invitation and we still have a pretty easy shedule ahead of us in the years to come...
