A HALLOWEEN SLAUGHTERING

Here's a Trick and Treat for those Lobos. The trick is we tricked them into thinking we sucked and we treated them to a good old fashion thump to the dome. I really don't care if New Mexico is o-for, it's still a win and when the Rams crush an opponent like that, we can celebrate any way we want.  That was probably the closest all around complete game the Rams have played this year and it gets me super excited for what's to come of these youngsters.

HELLRAISER
Hellraiser himself, Pete Thomas, looked unstoppable. Pinpoint accuracy, beautiful touch passes, and smart decision making raised hell all night long for New Mexico's defense. He has already crushed the record for most yards thrown by a freshman at CSU, let's just see if he can keep his dominants over all mortals that dare to cross his wrath. The only thing that worries me is Pete's mobility. There were times where he was scrabbling but gave up before getting to the line of scrimmage. By being Hellraiser you would think that he could just float over everyone to reach the end zone. Then he could pull a BVP and spike the ball off of people's skulls all day long.

HALLOWEEN: YET ANOTHER SEQUEL
Leonard Mason was slashing fools like Michael Myers. With his team leading 124 yards and 3 dudges, looks like the running game is back once again... for the time being. I don't know if it was because New Mexico had such a sorry defense or Mason was just that good. Probably a combo... but still, dominated. I loved how everyone got in the act as well. Nwoke had 98 yards and even little man Tony Drake (cough, who should be starting, cough, cough) look fairly good. But, whatever. Loved the running game overall. Let's see it again next week.

FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH
Mychal Sisson looked more like a creepy masked murderer from a crappy 80's movie,  how he was running all over the field, making plays. His team leading 12 tackles and 2 forced fumbles made him the pick of the week for defense, if there was one. And it wasn't just Sisson. Guy Miller destroyed QB B.R. Holbrook, knocking him out of the game in the first quarter. The rest of the defense played excellent as well, except on the first drive of the game. Our secondary left huge holes, allowing the Lobos some big plays. Please, don't do that next week because San Diego State's wide outs are freak'n scary.

Having said all this, special teams still need to watch out for those onside kicks. We've been fooled by that twice now and I'm already tired of it. Another thing is, I don't know what is going on with DeLine's kicks. That field goal he made looked liked it was blocked because he kicked it so low. Get it up son! At least he made it. Overall, great game. I know it's a long shot but, if the Rams play as well as they did this weekend for the rest of the season, bowling?? maybe? 6-6? Probably not but that's why this game at San Diego State is so important to win. Go Rams!

NO LOBO FO FOCO

Happy Halloween! This weekend there’s a masquerade ball at Hughes. Students from both CSU and UNM are dressing  up as football teams. I think they’re even going to play each other…

Good news everyone, we play New Mexico. The Lobos have lost eight straight dating back to last season. Incidentally, the last team they beat was...CSU. Surprise, surprise. Our readers know that this blog thinks that CSU is awful; showing up big one game and completely disappearing the next, but I’m going out on a limb and guaranteeing a win on Sat. Here’s why:

1. The Lobos  are 0-7 this year. They are battling Akron for worst team in the FBS.

2. Their defense is awful, allowing 44.1 points per game.

3. They start a true freshman at quarterback. Tarean Austin has played in 5 games this year and averages under 100 yds/game with 2 TDs and 4 INTs. He’s no Pete Thomas.

4. CSU plays well at home.  We score on average, 26 points/game at home as opposed to 10.4 on the road.

Done and done. This one should be easy. Go Rams!

*** APB *** CALLING ALL UNITS

Judging by Ram fan reactions, I want to issue an APB on Steve Fairchild. He’s been impersonating a head coach for almost three years now. Possible accomplices include Larry Kerr and Pat Meyer.  It’s obvious Fairchild is the ringleader though. He travels across the country sabotaging organizations including the St. Louis Rams and the Buffalo Bills. These suspects are definitely NOT armed nor dangerous so you can approach them. It’s not like I expected CSU to win this game or for it to be even close, but once again CSU doesn’t even show up. This is the 4th time this season we failed to score a TD.

Fairchild is so arrogant, pompous, righteous etc. Leonard Mason doesn’t play because of a poor week of practice? Really? Ummm, the run game got going the last two weeks because of Mason and apparently you’re so comfortable with the talent on this team, that you’ll make a switch…vs. #9 Utah…on the road? Really. Tony Drake is probably the most electric player on the team, because he doesn’t get any carries at RB because he can’t learn the plays. Really? Lets make him switch positions, that will solve the problem. Don’t get me started on Larry Kerr. Awful. After having an 18th ranked defense, they progressively worsened to 118th in the country in three years; didn’t he get fired from UCLA for this? Come on now. Water under the bridge I guess.

I don’t think its the players either. I think recruiting is better now than it was with Lubick and we are getting into Texas, California and Florida. This team is undisciplined and they don’t work together. Maybe they can’t grasp the schemes or the schemes just stink. Something has to change. At some point I’d like to see Fairchild step up, admit that he’s not getting it done and walk away.  We play the Lobos next week, don’t screw it up.
GO RAMS!

*** W A N T E D ***
Victim Zac Pauga
Suspect: Dave Kruger
Height: 6'5"  Weight: 290  Wanted for assault.
Criminal Description: Suspect was last seen trying to decapitate victim Zac Pauga's head during a humiliating rushing effort in a football game. Suspect is probably celebrating with fellow teammates and possibly some of the CSU cheerleaders the team stole after the game.If you have any information, please contact the Colorado State Athletic Department.

*** W A N T E D *** $1000 Reward
Suspect: Unknown, goes by the name "D-bag"
Wanted for fraud and a possible public intoxication charge.
Criminal Description: Suspect was falsely representing a Mountain West official and clearly was intoxicated when throwing his yellow handkerchief. Suspect is currently under investigation for possibly working for a Pac-10 officiating team.  He was last seen calling entirely too many penalties on an already damaged Colorado State football team. One eye-witness saw suspect drinking a PBR with a still lit cigarette placed on upper right ear nearly passed out on a city block in Salt Lake City. If you have any information on his whereabouts, please contact any CSU Ram fan. They would love to kick the crap out of him.

*** M I S S I N G ***

Suspects: Colorado State Ram Offense
Description: Suspects were last seen October 16 destroying the UNLV Rebels. No clues on their whereabouts and police are not really sure when they are going to show up again. Police also inform us that they weren't surprised the Rams didn't come out to play Saturday but were shocked when learned the final score of the contest was 59-6. It made everyone sick to their guts. Please, if you have any information, tell them they have a game against New Mexico this week and they will probably win.

*** W A N T E D ***
Suspect: Jordan Wynn aka "Goon"
Height: 6'1"  Weight: 195  Wanted for battery and open container law.
Criminal Description: Suspect was last seen kicking the crap out of the Colorado State defense for 321 yards and 3 touchdowns. Suspect also only played 3 quarters which violates the open container law in Utah for opening up a can of kicking our ass and shoving Ricky and the boys around. Uh... cover someone. You're killing me! If you have any information, don't hesitate. Call 911 immediately because he's about to do the same to Air Force.

Go Rams!

UTAH v CSU: BRACE YOURSELF...

...it might be a long day. I get how giddy we can get when the Rams finally score some dudges, and we break a 100 yards two weeks in a row, and our defense looks decent breaking records against a crappy UNLV offense, but let's face it, it will be a miracle to beat an undefeated Ute team in their own neighborhood, especially if we decide to keep the extra point missing play. Honestly, I think the Rams could beat them if Utah looks past them but we have to be sharp in all aspects of the game, highlight the special teams. We've got to fix our problems here. I know with Derek Good returning kicks, it's going to give us great field position but we need to finish the offensive assault. Missed field goals and extra points can not happen against a team like Utah. Our defense needs to remain aggressive. These past two weeks, Ricky and the boys have looked like a force to be feared. (I'm counting the second half of the Air Force game.)  They've been tested before and we've witnessed the weak display of tackling, but, they've never been tested with momentum of 6 quarters of stellar defense. Our D-line has looked outstanding with getting pressure on the quarterback. Same with our offense, we need to remain aggressive. I love the progress the running game has made with Mason in the back field but, again, enough of the wildcat. It gets us no where. Sure we scored once with Mosure but it's embarrassing when the play is squashed. I'm just saying sometimes we look like a pee-wee football team running around confused, then excited because Pete Thomas' mom brought some orange slices for halftime. Speaking of PT4, he has looked brilliant lately. Beautiful touch passes; perfect strikes to Lou Greenwood; tucking the ball and making smart decisions at the right times. It's so great to finally feel comfortable when I'm watching the Rams and knowing who's in control on the offense. (Then Steve confuses me by throwing Borky at QB and I'm thinking great, another negative 5 yards with the wildcat formation.)

Jordan Wynn
I really don't think I can say anything bad about Utah's football team. Except maybe that Jordan Wynn looks like a goon in is photo. They do spread the ball around in the back field a lot so that can serve as some trouble for our D. And the combination of DeVonte Christopher and Jereme Brooks is a deadly one for our freshman DBs. Let's just hope they're up for the challenge because the Ute offense isn't ranked 4th in the nation for points scored for nothing. I can't really say anything bad about their defense. They're 9th for points against. 9th! Can we schedule UNLV twice in one year? You know, to replace Utah? No, I'm ready for this. I want to see how good or how awful we really are.

And before I finish, I got one point to make. What is the deal with putting Tony Drake in the wide receiver position? You know it's hard enough for him to learn the running back and now he's got to learn two positions? He's screwed! I get your trying to get him in there as a weapon but he's too small! I doubt he's another Lou Greenwood but I guess our coaching staff knows what they're doing? Sorry Tony. My dreams of you one day juking out fools and rushing over 2000 yards have been smashed. Well, if you're a team with a 2-5 record I guess you can experiment.

Good luck Rams! Upset the Utes.

HIT OF THE YEAR (SO FAR) MIKE ORAKPO

Here it is! The decapitation of UNLV's runnning back. Sorry for the quality but it's one of the only videos I can find. There is some highlight reels on the Mountain West Conference website but this one shows it multiple times. Go Rams!

ABSOLUTE ANNIHILATION! CSU WINS!

Pete Thomas running for a dudge. He didn't get in on this play.

Cam looking good
Oh man! That was absolutely awesome! I have to say that I was very impressed with the Rams performance today. From beginning to end, they never let off the gas pedal. In fact, I'm pretty sure after running over the Rebels in drive, they threw it in reverse and ran over them again. Then back into drive, and peeled out on top of them. Pete Thomas was so impressive. Throwing for 233 yards and 3 touchdowns, I think if he keeps this up, by the time he's done here he will break every passing record by every quarterback that has ever gone to CSU. He was that right on with his touch and accuracy. Those two bombs to Lou Greenwood were so perfect, I almost dump my beer on the kid in front of me in celebration. Today Guy from Grand Junction was right. Pete was poison to the UNLV defense. Speaking of UNLV's D, they are awful. I feel bad for the Rebel fans that drove here to watch that mess they call a defense. Hopefully those fans found the gyro man last night in Old Town. That might have been worth the drive. Or maybe the drive was worth having to watch Mike Orako absolutely decapitate their running back in front of the entire UNLV fan section! I'm serious. If you didn't see it, you need to! I'm sure it will be up on YouTube very soon and when it is, trust me, we'll be showing it here on repeat. Another man that was incredible on defense today was Guy Miller. What a wrecking ball. 4 and a half sacks for a new school record! I also have to give credit to some players that I feel that I constantly rip on, and that's the Rams secondary. They locked it down all day. Usually I'm ripping Shaq Bell for a missed tackle or a picture perfect attempt at an arm tackle but I didn't see any of that. Bravo defense! I spared you a wedgie. Our running game looked great too! Mason was running all over fools. It was kind of a rebirth for him. I understand he did the same thing last week, but, two weeks in a row for a CSU running back? Unheard of these days.
Lots of famous people at the game! Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Spiderman and a badly out of shape Cecil Sapp.

Kapri Bibbs maybe? I feel like a stalker
Still, with every win, there's always improvement to be made. I see we still love missing extra points making the score a non-football one. I said it before, it makes everyone feel weird. What is that, three this year? Awesome! Glad we're making progress in that department. Oh yeah, another blocked punt. Spectacular! You're lucky we're playing the crappiest team in the MWC. Wait, we still get to play New Mexico? The other thing that Steve still loves is that wildcat formation. Even though it worked once today for a 7 yard dudge from Mosure, it hasn't work the 152 other times you ran that formation this year. Stop trying to get fancy.

Mason taking a hand off.
Overall, it was a beautiful day, huge crowd, and a CSU Ram win!
Go Rams!

START OF THE SECOND HALF: UNLV v CSU

This giant sign was installed to welcome the UNLV football team. I like how they got the cowgirl crossing the street in the shot. Nice touch.
I love Vegas though. When I go, I normally chill by the pool and drink beer and then hit the clubs at night. I don’t dance but pretend to. I’m not much of a gambler, but if I was, I’d bet on the Rams for a big win this Saturday at Hughes.

For the first, and probably only time this season CSU is favored to win a football game. The oddsmakers have the Rams a 3 ½ point favorite. Now I know what you’re thinking, “Isn’t home field advantage worth at least a TD against a really crappy UNLV team?” I thought the same thing and the answer I came up was “No. No it’s not.” I think the reason here is that both teams are so awful and inconsistent is that we really have no idea what to expect this weekend. CSU used to have a habit of playing to  the level of their opponent, but lately (cough, Fairchild, cough) everybody schools us. UNLV’s only win this year came against a winless New Mexico, while ours came against a pretty decent Idaho team. So if you look at it that way, CSU is definitely has the stronger win.

Omar Clayton
On the quarterback side of things, I think we all know what I'm gonna say. Yes, Pete Thomas (or Poison Pete, a name of which Roy from Grand Junction likes to refer him by) is the better teenager. Even though Omar Clayton is an experienced senior QB, I really don't think he stands a chance against our over achieving secondary. No, really. I think the Rams are coming to play this week. Now having said that, Phillip Payne and Michael Johnson could make #22 and the boys look like fools. But, I guess that's nothing new. Then again it is the start of the second half of the season. When I look at both team's running game, they're so similar that I can't even tell which team I'm looking at. The stunning Heisman performances of Tim Cornett's team leading 163 yards, and Leonard Mason's team leading 175 yards has everyone's turtle heads peeking with excitement! I don't even know what that means but man, I can't wait for these two future top ten draft picks go at it! Maybe Mason will catch a record number of bubble screens so his name will be relevant forever in the NCAA. (Sarcasm)

Another thing, I hope or special teams show up this week. I really don't think I can stand another missed extra point. I hate it when the scoring gets screwed up and it's 22 or 19 to something. I think it makes everyone feel weird. As far as the defense goes, I think they'll show up this week. I would love to see that same defense that played TCU. If you missed it, the first three quarters were the tops.

To all the Rebels and their fans, Fort Collins constructed that sign for you to make you feel more at home. We even got all the intoxicated people that wander the streets looking for the gyro man. I say, enjoy your gyro because I think the Rams are going to absolutely annihilate you guys. If we don't, well, I hope you choke on your gyro. Not really.

TIMELINE OF A CSU MASCOT MARK

When I graduated from Colorado State back in 2001, I was just like everyone else coming into the "real world". I didn't know what I wanted to do for work. The one thing I did know is that I wanted to give something back to the school I had so much fun attending, especially the athletic program. Here is a timeline of what it took to get to today, October 13, 2010,  2:30pm.   • 2003 - I wanted to come up with a new alternate Colorado State logo. One that would reflect with the changing times. I really felt that some of the things the school was promoting and selling was out dated and needed a fresh look. As a new designer fresh out of college, I thought this would be no problem. Yeah right. Look how long this timeline is. Anyway,   • 2005 - I talked to a couple of people about some suggestions to make it look better so after making some revisions and showing some close friends and family I was totally ready to send it off to a random stranger that worked in the CSU A.D. So I did. I did get a response but not the one I wanted to hear. Basically they told me that they already had a logo and they were not looking for one at the time. "Thanks and keep up the good work!" Sarcasm. I wasn't about to give up.   • 2007 - For about a year, I really just sat on it. I thought about how I can improve the mark to really make it stand out. I was seeing all these other college programs with these awesome designs but keeping their original look. (ie: UCLA, Alabama, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech) So, I made more revisions, making it more 3 dimensional and using multiple shades of green. By the time I was finally finished with this update, I remember the football season was coming to an end and Sonny was about to "leave". I wanted to wait and see who was the next coach to make my next move. I also knew that the new athletic director Paul Kowalczyk was just hired a year earlier so I thought it would be the perfect time to introduce a new look. I went back to the drawing board.   • 2008 - I made a couple more revisions and sent it directly to the A.D. this time. I felt pretty ballsy. That or I really didn't care at this point. After five years you would be a little frustrated too. No response again, that is until the end of the 2008 football season. This time it was different. They wanted to see what it looked like with a full body.   • 2009 - I drew some sketches. (shown to the right) I did three different poses, aggressive, attentive, and tough. I also added an ear to the design, something to which I was amazed that I didn't add before. Other than the fact that the initial body designs were not wearing any pants, I thought they looked pretty cool. I sent it on, they came back with a "where's the pants?" Duh, SO I added some shorts, changed the color to a more natural looking animal color and sent it on.   • 2010 - They decided to go with the tough look and so I was making revisions off of this look from then on. After a number of back and forth emails, the final revisions is what you see here at the bottom. I really like the three different outfits but if I had to go with one, I would go with the first athletic look with just the shorts and CSU shirt. I've been waiting 7 years for this idea to finally be realized and in the end it feels a little bitter sweet. Having an original vision of just being a logo and having it turn into a three dimensional character is a little weird. The new CAM the RAM should look better than the one being used.  I still can't believe it took 7 years. Crazy.  Go Rams!

AIR FORCE BOMBS CSU 49-27

Luckily the game was at Air Force so no one was hurt. They'll have to rebuild though.

As I watch the Rams this season, every week I'm expecting something to catch my eye. Something that resembles progress. Disappointed is all I feel. Nothing ever really sticks out. It was another day at the office for our Rams though, but this time, it's not just our defense we can blame. It's our awful special teams too. I'm not really sure what's going on there by I'm pretty sure a kicker is supposed to make 100% of his extra points during the season. To add to DeLine's woes, Air Force had great field position all game and a kick return for a dudge. It felt like someone was giving me a gut punch everytime Air Force would touch the ball because they would score! Good to see Ricky and the boys still practicing good tackling technique. Again, perfect execution of an arm tackle to bring the running back down. Seriously, coming into this game I think we all knew that Air Force was going to run all over us (248 yards and 3 dudges) but give us a little more effort. Not to mention or defense looked like molasses. Terribly slow.

The offense didn't look that much better the first three quarters of play either. It takes too long for them to get going. Pete Thomas never had time to throw the ball. I think he has been sacked more times this year than any other quarterback in the FBS. And what is with these crappy screen passes, especially on third and long! Come on Steve! I STILL see receivers going out for passes and shortening their routes a yard or two before the first down marker. That would work if the goal would to make it 9 yards instead of 10 for a first down. The only bright side to that is at least they are getting a lot of experience on going for it on forth down.

I feel like I mention the same stuff every week and it seems that the progress of the team is taking forever. Having said that I can say there was some positives to this game. Derek Good looked excellent returning the ball today. He seems to add a little spark to the special teams. CSU has been the only team to score on Air Force in the forth quarter this year and we did it twice. I feel we've started to establish a little bit of a running game but again, where's Tony Drake? And finally, at least we did score. I know it was late in the game but that only builds confidence and momentum into next week. For a side note to make everyone feel better, CU got waxed by Missouri.

Go Rams!

ON TO AIR FORCE NOW

I realize I’ve been kind of negative and I even apologized for being a d-bag to the Rams. Well, I take it back. It was reverse psychology. I thought if I was nice, the Rams would return the favor. Well they didn’t. But I’ve been thinking about karma lately and putting good vibes out into the universe. So I’m trying to try again and be more optimistic. Here goes…

So what if the Rams failed to put up a single point against TCU at home? Scoring is so overrated. What about moral victories people? CSU definitely scored more effort points and that’s what really important. If they scored effort, we would have at least 3 points. And they were totally having fun out there. You could tell. Just watching our RBs getting plowed and our line get mauled; everyone deserved an orange slice or two. So let’s not get caught up in the fact that we are totally clueless about football. We even rolled 12 players onto the field about 4 different times. I wish the officials weren’t so nitpicky, it was an honest mistake. Remember what Fairchild tells us all the time, “This is a young team and they are getting valuable experience that is really going to help at some point in the future in a galaxy far, far away.”

This week doesn’t get any easier facing the Air Force Falcons. Normally, I would point out the fact that AF has the nation’s #1 rushing offense and their vaunted triple option is going to give Larry Kerr’s defense fits, but let’s look on the bright side. Colorado Springs is a beautiful town. Make it a day and check out Garden of the Gods, which I hear is spectacular. Also, our defense actually held it together against the #5 Horned Frogs and entered halftime yielding only 6 points. Unfortunately, TCU decided to actually try in the 2nd half and they ended with a 27-0 win. We are not a very physical team. We’re pretty small all over the place. A-ha! So is Air Force, but that’s because they have to be kind of small to fly stealth bombers.

Optimistic game prediction of the year: AFA – 38 CSU – 21  (That’s 3 TD’s people!)

Go Rams!

KAPRI BIBBS: A FUTURE DOMINATING FORCE

Kapri Bibbs taking a hand off
In case you haven't heard, running back Kapri Bibbs from Plainfield, Illinois is absolutely destroying his high school competition. Granted, it is only high school but, this past weekend he rushed for an Illinois state record of 520 yards and 7 dudges. Crazy. For those of you who don't know he has committed to CSU and from things that I have read, he sounds pretty excited about coming here. If I'm reporting news you've already heard, I apologize. I'm just trying to get everyone up to speed here. Anyway, let's just hope Steve Fairchild is on the phone calling him nonstop sucking up and making sure everything is going ok. Letting him know how much he cares. Maybe asking him out for coffee to catch up on things. Sharing a few laughs while they scrap book together. Then the next thing you know Steve has called him too much and Kapri loses interest and Steve starts leaving messages like, "Hey, just seeing what you've been doing. Saw you in the paper again. Hope everything's going alright. I really like you.. a lot! Are you mad at me? Call me... whenever. You got my number." I really hope that doesn't happen because you know bigger schools will come knocking. Kapri, stop showing off. We need to keep you a secret. Watch this video-

ZERO POINTS? THAT SEEMS ABOUT RIGHT

This trash bin was full of totally useless things thrown out by CSU fans. I thought I would take a picture of it.
I'm so glad to see the Rams getting back to form in this one. Miss ques on offense between receiver and quarterback. Thrilling 1 yard to negative 5 yard running plays. Awesome arm tackling techniques executed perfectly to give TCU a superb rushing attack. Yep, everything went perfectly as planned. Except the part where we score more than zero points. I have to say that the wildcat formation and this CSU football team do not go at all with each other, especially when TJ Borky is back there taking the snap. It's awful to watch a player struggle to get to three yards behind the line of scrimmage before he is absolutely blown up by a 300 pound lineman that isn't even blocked in the first place. Another thing is where are they getting some of these plays written up? Are they submitted on napkins during the game from fans? If they were, I wish I would have known because I would have drawn one up to where the receivers would go past the first down yard markers to ensure forward progress, instead of these ridiculous hook routes that go maybe 7 yards and we end up dropping them anyway. I know the score was close at half (6-0) and I was pleased with that but if our receivers would stop taking smoke breaks in the middle of the game and start running the correct routes, we could be scoring a lot more. Pete was on target for the majority of the game but man, move out of the already collapsing pocket or throw it away!

I remember turning to a buddy at the half saying "Man, we're in pretty good shape!" then I looked at the score board and it said this:
This was the worst game ever! Not only CSU wasn't moving the ball, TCU couldn't either. To give credit to CSU, TCU is a really boring team to watch. All they do is run. I know it's effective but geez, come on Andy. You're number 5 in the nation. Blow us up like you're supposed to. On one running play I saw Shaq Bell running right next to Matthew Tucker stride for stride like they were two littl school boys racing each other during recess. Cut over and tackle him!
Like we're going to steal your crappy running plays.

My bother texted me in the middle of the third quarter, "You guys have 95 offensive yards. I think the lingerie football team could get 95 yards." I sadly agreed with him. (If you didn't know, there is a lingerie football league called the LFL). Anyways, overall that football game was a sad experience. During the second half was saying how the offense should start setting goals for themselves, like, ok, let's just get to the 50. Nice! Let's just get to the 40. Yes! Let's just get to the... crap... Mosure just fumbled. Damn it. Towards the end of the game I was just messing with the settings on my camera and taking random pictures. Examples below:
I was really bored at the end of the game.
Here are some more interesting photos from the game. Go Rams, I guess.
